Ian Defley finally savoured his first win in more than a season as he grabbed the victory in Norway today.
The Åsane Grand Prix G2 started off promisingly with a bunch of six riders jumping off the front and building a decent gap 35km into the race, but relentless pressure from some of the top teams eventually reeled them in near the 100km mark.
From there on, it was smooth sailing as the finishing climb wiped out most of the pretenders and left Defley an easy looking stroll to the finish line. Though the win was comparatively efficient, the Aussie rider looked once more like the blistering rider of old, which no doubt made team insiders leap for joy.
Defley once more sits atop the Australian rider rankings with the latest result and offers more hope that this season will be much more successful than the last. With signs that young TTer Fenton Sommers is really turning into a gem of a rider, things could not get much better.
